Clay Electric Cooperative is a member-owned distribution cooperative dedicated to providing Safe, Reliable, and Exceptional service to our Member Owners. We serve the County of Clay and surrounding counties of Richland, Wayne, Jasper, Fayette, Effingham, and Marion. We are seeking an organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Warehouse/Purchasing Agent to join our dynamic team.
Position Summary:
The Warehouse/Purchasing Agent plays a key role in ensuring the seamless sourcing of goods and services required for warehouse operations. This individual will manage vendor relationships, secure quotes/bids, and maintain optimal inventory levels to support our cooperative’s objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of supply chain processes and a commitment to driving cost-effective purchasing decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source, evaluate, and select suppliers to meet quality, price, and delivery requirements
- Secure quotes and bids with vendors to ensure cost savings and favorable agreements
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory
- Collaborate with operations manager to forecast demand and address supply chain challenges
- Evaluate supplier performance and build strong, long-term vendor relationships
- Process purchase orders, track shipments, and resolve any discrepancies in orders or deliveries
- Stay up-to-date with pricing and supply chain innovations
- Prepare and maintain purchasing reports and documentation
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical sourcing practices
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Hold and maintain a valid IL driver’s license
- Must reside or be willing to relocate within territorial boundaries of Clay Electric Cooperative. Applicants do not have to receive electricity from Clay Electric Cooperative
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a distribution or warehouse environment
- Proficiency in software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to lift 50+ LBS on a regular basis
- Currently hold or be able to obtain a IL Department of Agriculture spray license for purchasing of spray materials
- Operate mechanical equipment: forklift, skid steer, zero turn mower, string trimmer, etc.
- Operate office equipment such as scanners, copiers, computers and radio equipment
- Work performed is done both indoors and outdoors. Occasional travel and overtime may be required
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Familiarity with cooperative business models is a plus
- Individual must work following safety rules and policies established by Clay Electric
- This is a short list of the duties of this position. Due to the small number of employees other job tasks could be required
Upon receipt of a job offer, the applicant must pass a physical examination that verifies there is no physical reason that he/she cannot perform the essential functions of the job under the working conditions described but not limited to. The offer of employment will be contingent upon the potential applicant passing the physical examination, background check and a drug/alcohol screening.
